John Kunkel’s 50 Eggs Opens a New Bar

On August 23, 2013, “Patpong Road” opens above Khong River House, bringing Thailand’s Red Light District to Miami Beach. Inspired by the night market, the “Bangkok Chic” bar will act as a weekend party destination for locals, offering Thai-influenced snacks, approachable cocktails served out of plastic bags in authentic Thai fashion, and a mix of 90’s hip-hop music curated by DJ Jessica Who, who has built a for her high intensity sets, with regular appearances in Miami, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and beyond.

“Patpong Road is a cultural and visual overload, where neon-lit go-go bars share sidewalk space with restaurants, music venues, clothing, and food stalls. You see people drinking snake blood right in front of you,” says CEO John Kunkel. “It’s exhilarating, dark, and sexy, and we’re excited to bring that energy to Miami.”

The menu is created by Khong River House’s talented family of chefs trained in traditional Thai cooking methods. Sudarat Loasupho, lovingly referred to as “Mama Pai,” is the head of the kitchen family, and hails from Yasothorn in the Northeast part of Thailand.

The cocktail program, curated by 50 Eggs Beverage Director Allegra Angelo, is simple and approachable. Cocktails include Pat That, Whiskey and Lemongrass-Ginger Ale, “Laid-ee” Drink, Good Rum, Fresh Fruit Juice, and Lime in a 'Sippi' Bag, Hive + Seek, Gin, Lemon, and White Pepper-Bird Chili Syrup, A Real French 75, Gin, Fresh Lemon, Delamotte Champagne (not Prosecco), and a little Sugar, and the Stupid Filthy Dirty Martini, Stoli Elite Vodka and Filthy Olives.

Housed above Khong River House, the space is lit with vintage light bulbs and candles, and outfitted with exposed brick walls, wood paneling, and various reclaimed materials such as vintage tin and original teakwood that comes directly from Patpong in Thailand. The bar offers standing room for 10–15 guests, and the lounge section adjacent to the bar is equipped with custom-made brown leather sofas and low tables, providing an intimate spot for guests to relax.
